Connect-May-2018
Connect Magazine May 2018

Dear BFC,

A short time has now passed since we said goodbye to the Martin family. Ben and the family so faithfully loved and served this church for nearly thirteen years, giving of themselves for the whole time. They were a key reason why many of us settled here, my family included.

Now though, we are in a new season. We are into our new preaching series: “Lawless Christianity – living in faith and freedom”, the aim of which is to remind us of the gospel of Jesus, that we are saved by grace alone, not grace plus making the grade. This series through Galatians is important for us as a church moving forward because it grounds us in the gospel and helps us remember why we do what we do, ultimately it is all about Jesus and telling people of all that He has done. Matthew 28:19-20 reads:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This is what BFC is about. Our aim in being ‘a radical church family in Billingshurst and beyond’ isn’t just to be a nice cosy family but to be a radical family who “spur one another on to love and good works” as the writer to the Hebrews reminds us. Our greatest act of love being the sharing of the gospel with those who don’t yet know Jesus for themselves. Let us be a family who strengthen one another to keep going on in love.

This Summer we are headed to Westpoint, my hope is that in those few days together we build on those family bonds, helping us to disciple one another ever better, maybe even repairing some broken bonds. There’s something about a family holiday where through times of rest together, God seems to bring a revitalised new beginning upon the return home, that is my prayer for Westpoint 2018. Please book in ASAP!

In other news, I’ve been in the office on my own a fair bit now but I’ve also been getting out and catching up with church members, long standing and new. Please let me know if you’d like to catch up for a coffee and chat, my door is open.

I’ve also taken on Ben’s role as vice chair of the Street Pastors in Billingshurst, an outreach ministry opportunity for us as a church that I’d like to see us engage with more fully, being out on the street and sharing Jesus’ love in a practical way is too big an opening to miss!

I’m so glad you all are able to be part of this new season at BFC.

With love,

-Craig
