The day after the martin's farewell

Writing this blog the day after we made our farewell to the Martin’s feels very odd. You can’t know people for nearly thirteen years, working with them in leading a church without it affecting you. And yet despite the expected sadness and maybe a little apprehension about what the future holds for us as a church the overwhelming feeling I have the day after is thankfulness. For God giving us this couple who have served us well, with passion, with perseverance and most of all with love.

It was so good to hear Ben giving his farewell preach and reminding us that before all else, whatever we do, we must do everything with love, as we respond to the amazing love of Jesus for us. And then to enjoy lunch together and meet up with friends who over the years have moved elsewhere, the Team Martin vs Team BFC quiz and people sharing how their lives have been affected by this amazing couple. But don’t ask Ben to put up a tent if his efforts to put up the Rainbow Toddlers play tent are anything to go by!

As we move into the next season for us as a church under Craig’s leadership let us be guided by the thankfulness for all that God has done for us as a church family over the last thirteen years and let that fill us with faith, hope and most of all love, as we look forward to what God is going to be doing in the next few years. Yes we don’t know exactly how it is going to work out for us as a church family or how it will affect us personally but surely when we look back and thank God for what he has done this must encourage us to get stuck in for all he is surely going to continue doing amongst us.

And finally please do hold the Martin’s in your prayers, for practicalities like house moves and schools and also for God to bless them, refresh them and prepare them as Ben starts his well-deserved sabbatical.

with love,

Neil
