Connect September 2016
Welcome to our latest newsletter – connecting you with the vision of BFC and sharing what God is doing amongst us and with us. With a limited space to fill,
let me share one highlight of what God has done and one highlight of what’s coming up.
Around 80 of us went away for the bank holiday weekend to the Commission conference near Exeter – most camped on site with a few staying in nearby hotels.
We enjoyed quality time to connect with one another – eating meals together, doing sports and crafts, socialising in the marquee and many more activities. We got to hear some excellent and highly challenging sermons, especially by Phil Moore (Everyday Church, London) and Mark Jobe (New Life Church, Chicago), along with great seminar talks from local and international Commission leaders. Our kids and youth met with God in their groups – many made commitments and were filled with the Spirit. And we joined with thousands of others in powerful times of worship, prayer, communion and giving.
For the offering, they were praying for £250k but that more than doubled to £600k! We felt a new sense of fellowship and togetherness both within our church and with the other churches. Guy Miller (leader of Commission) shared our vision and called us to be part of reaching thousands of people through hundreds of churches in tens of nations, which will be achieved as we send, unify, release and equip (our S.U.R.E strategy). It truly was an amazing time.
Bookings are open for Westpoint 2017 (24th-28th August) so as you are planning your holidays for next year make this a priority, it will be so worth it. Non-camping options are available – so no excuses there.
Over September, through our Sunday sermons and homegroup discussions, we are looking together about us being an Everyday Church. Because it’s so easy for us to make church a Sunday event – focusing all our gifts, our pastoral care, our missional
desires into one service in one hall. The Bible presents a greater vision of daily relationships, natural mission and a gospel that is seen and heard by the world around us. In that reality, everyone feels part of something bigger as they are refreshed and equipped in our times together to then go out and be Christ and the church to their friends, family and co-workers. Catch up on the series here.
Westpoint has reminded us what God is capable of doing when believers break out of these self-made barriers; as they agree to be sold out for Him and all-in with what He wants to do with us.
So as we head into this new season of seeking God together e.g. our Week of Prayer, with lots of missional opportunities (Quiz Night 15th Oct, Ladies Evening 19th Nov, Carol services 17th & 18th Dec) leading to Alpha in January, and even as we seek to deepen our own fellowship and worship, let us lay hold together of the vision of a church for every day of the week, for every place we find ourselves and for every person we encounter.
